The blank on the right side is called negative space. The negative or wasted space does not detract from what I want the viewer to focus on (as if it could with her in the picture). The image is all about her.
LOL re the rule of thirds. Great shot, Jim. And yes, excellent use of negative space. Had you positioned her in the center it wouldn't have been quite as inviting. And secondly, this would actually make a good commercial shot for an ad, with all the space to the right for text/copy. NICE! GN
